The Letter of Intent

It's done. We've sealed our fate here at St. Michael's School. Yesterday morning, we had to turn in an official letter stating our intentions regarding next year. We decided not to stay. In the letter, we said that we had learned much from St. Michael's School, but that it was time for us to move back home and start thinking about settling down. At the end of the year, if they ask, we may let the administration in on more of the real reasons we have decided not to stay.

It felt strange to make such a big decision so far ahead of time, and stranger still to hand the letter to the secretary knowing that we can't change our minds. I (Claire) felt a little funny about it, thinking of the extremely remote possiblility that we might want to stay after all, but I became sure that we made the right decision after school when John told me about his day. He had the worst teaching day of his entire teaching career because of the way the students here act, because of the way they treat him. I'm not going into detail, but he was obviously miserable, and it made my heart break. He's decided that the only way he can make it through is to simply think of school as his job - what he has to do to make money - and forget what happens there after 3:00 every day. How sad! So, we're sure we made the right decision, and we are excited to get back to the public education system in the USA. Even with all its imperfections, it's the place we want to be.

So, if you're an administrator in a school in or around Bloomington, Indiana, and you happen to be reading this blog post, consider hiring the Roths - in spite of what you have read on this blog, we love teaching.

Are you interested in the Middlebury Community School System :) There are some people retiring in my school John and I could put in a good word for you...let me know :)

so proud of you both for having given it a good whirl. I am sure there has been an impact from your teaching & being there that you just may not know in this lifetime.

Elkhart, Indiana is beautiful this time of year. Maybe you should check it out? Affordable housing...friends close by...less than 4 hours away from 4 major cities (Indy, Chi-town, Detroit, and Cleveland)...a friendly dog available for walks at any time...discounted drinks at a coffe shop....countless hours of games involving throwing rocks across a river...what more could you ask for???

Wow! What an adventure though! You two have definately lived in a beautiful place...beaches, palm trees, sunsets, rainbows....and most of all, YOU ARE WARM RIGHT NOW and we are DANGEROUSLY COLD this weekend and next week! Soak up the sun! HOWEVER, what a year to be out of the country...GO COLTS/BEARS!!! You are missing Colts Fever and you won't come down with Blue Flu on Monday morning like the rest of the Hoosiers! Can't wait to see you two again...Lisa Harvey

Yay, if you guys end up back in Bloomington, I'll still be here next year!
