The Apartment After Some Personal Touches

These are some of our pictures after a good afternoon and evening of sweeping, mopping, and rearragnging. We start off in our bedroom where the biggest change that you might notice is that we moved our bed at an angle and moved our nightstands out into the living room. We have a curved wall in our room and now that we moved our bed we had to put some decrotive pillows and heavy blanket that I can't ever imagine using behind the bed. This actually gives the bed extra length which is good because I am 6'1'' and the bed is about 5'10'', you do the math on that one.

Our bathroom didn't change a whole lot other than all of our toiletries were added and the toilet seat cover was taken away. The lid just wouldn't stay open while going if you know what I mean.

Here I am in our new living room. We moved the T.V. from the wall next to our door and put in to the all next to it. We also moved our patio furniture around and the "rug" I am sitting on is actually the blanket that was on our bed when we got here. It is a coarse, heavy blanket that we wouldn't use.

We are starting to feel a little better about our apartment. Now that we have rearranged the furniture and started to figure out the weird things. Here is an example:
The water is not completely cold anymore, but it is also not hot. In the shower, the water barely trickles out of the faucet. It takes me (Claire) a half hour to wash the shampoo out of my hair, and I have a feeling that I'm still not getting it all out. So - one of these days, when I get really really sweaty, there may actually be bubbles in my hair. Thonight, John took the shower head off and stuck a bottle on the end of the pipe to try to get the water to hit us. We'll see how it goes.
Today, we sat (from 9-4) through a teacher in-service about this system called "Quantum Learning." Education re-invents the wheel every year, it seems, and we didn't learn anything new, but that may be because the whole thing was in Spanish. This was a puzzlement to us since all the teachers are supposed to speak English and the presenters speak English. Why not just do it in English so that we can understand too? It was completely exhausting for me (Claire) because I understand enough Spanish to listen and get the main idea of things, but it takes so much brain power that after two hours, I was practically in a comatose state. We did have some translation, but much is lost in the middle. John said that no teacher in-service in the USA will ever seem that bad compared to this one. We have another day of it tomorrow. Not cool. The assistant principal actually said today that they were thinking about giving us (the English speakers) two days off, but then decided that we might as well come. Bummer.
Today, we also made our first successful solo trip to the Multi-Centro, which is like a very expensive Super Walmart. We didn't get mugged on the way home.
Well, we're going to hole ourselves up in our airconditioned bedroom and watch a DVD on our laptop. Ahhhhh... relaxation.
PS Check out our phone number on the side bar. Call us any time!!

We had the same options in Taiwan: the well-lit, feels like Wal-Mart store which has all the normal brands but is super expensive; or the run-down, cockroaches in the corner local store, with unknown brand names and cheaper options. I hope you'll be able to find something in the middle - at least sans cockroaches.
Your apartment looks great by the way - colourful couches! Does your blue mosquito netting work?

Just so everyone knows, John is NOT naked in these pictures. It was pointed out to me by a dear friend that it looks like we were trying to be "funny." Nothing of the sort! He's wearing shorts!
It's nice to see the photos of your place. Looks plenty comfortable - and sure beats the little green room we called home in CR. John, you were dressed appropriately for the living room photo - but we hope you wear something else to school. Hope the meetings went well today. I guess they're helping you to learn Espanol sooner than you were planning. Longuage stress = headache; but you'll pick up stuff sooner that way. It's fun to be in on your process & progress. The Blogsite is very convenient. We're catching up while sitting at a coffeeshop in Woodland Park Colorado. Your brothers & Laura say Hola! Love, Mom&DadP
